Lauren Benson Trio

Lauren Benson is a vivacious, professional and determined young musician.

 

A passionate drummer, percussionist, singer and songwriter, she is involved in several up-and-coming bands in the Sydney scene. Currently she is completing her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music majoring in Jazz Drums, and has worked under the direction of Simon Barker, Andrew Dickeson, Judy Bailey, Tim Firth, Sandy Evans and Toby Hall. She has also been mentored by Merv Dick (The Deltones), Simon Cook and Ali Foster. Highlights have been meeting Sheila E and Daniel Glass.

 

Lauren knew at an early age her passion was music. From being Music Captain at school and completing grades in piano and musicianship, in 2007 she went on to win the Jann Ruthorford Mentorship Award offered by Sydney Improvised Music Association, as well as winning an Achievement Award whilst attending IAJE Jazz Camp run by John Morrison. She placed fourth in the Annual Billy Hyde Playoff in 2008, and was the drummer in the Sydney Conservatorium Big Band in 2012.

 

Lauren has worked commercially in TV ads and more recently on the X Factor. She works as a music teacher on Sydney’s North Shore, both privately and in schools, as well as playing in musicals, school productions and HSC performances. She also judges band competitions and runs band workshops in schools.
